Teaching and Residencies

Teaching

While doing my undergraduate degree at Arts University Bournemouth I was fortunate enough to be selected to assist in the summer school and Saturday school program as an assistant.  During my MA I was approached by Widening participation to be a visiting tutor for the saturday school program. I was elated because I knew after my MA I wanted to pursue teaching and at the time Higher Education was undetermined.  After working this past year with children on the Saturday school program I knew that A levels or foundation would be something I would be keen on pursuing academically within the arts. See lesson plan below.

A curriculum was designed and the lesson plans were divide up between the visiting Tutor to design various lesson plans and my first lesson plan was to write a lesson plan teaching drawing and design skills through the media of print.

Students work from this particular lesson plan

Feed Back and evaluation from Visiting Tutor hours

Following the feed back I was asks to return next  year 2015 as a visiting tutor. I also have been liasing with several schools for sponsorship and employment Tregwell Academy and Pool high school.  These schools do a teacher training program where a student is put into a teachers training role and sponsored for the PGCE.  Dorset use to fund the Skitt  (PGCE) program for students while they were teaching, however funds have been depleted for the  PGCE so know student must pay the 8000 pounds tuition for the one year program. This is the main reason I did a MA because in the United States PGCE is not a recognize credential so the benefit of an MA would only improve my chances for employment in  my home country and hopefully assist me in teaching within Britain.

Artist in Residency

I was fortunate enough to have the experience of with working with the head of Fine Art (Patrick Matland) at Pool High School. This was a student Artist residency.  The premise of the residency is stated in the email below from Deano Pickering Widening Participation.

This residency was a fantastic opportunity and it was refreshing to work to
another brief in alignment with my MA project.

Teaching Workshops

I was asked by marketing at Arts University Bournemouth to teach print workshops
on open days at the university. I have been doing open day workshops for the last
two years. What I liked and enjoyed most about the workshops was not only teaching print but also promoting the University to perspective students.
